SIDE-DUMP CAR

and
FLATCAR

SIDE-DUMP CAR

ADHESIVE NOTES – FauxToys recommends Scotch® Double-sided tape for assembly. (Be careful – do NOT get Scotch Removable Double-stick tape). Cheaper brands of double-sided tape have not proven satisfactory.

Spray cement or contact cement can be used, but Double-Sided tape is by far the easiest, neatest and safest adhesive for the wraps in either temporary or permanent applications.

Water-based glue such as Elmer's® may cause warping of the wrap and rusting of the car body.

Protecting the Wraps (Optional Step) - FauxToys wraps are tough and water-resistant. However pressing on the wrap with wet hands may leave permanent fingerprints in the gloss surface. Two coats of common paste wax will give increased protection to the surface. See Details.

Remove the bin from the crossed wires on the car's frame.

Cut out the wrap, using scissors or a sharp hobby knife. Put a smallcut at the ends of all foldlines, then turn over and lightly score the fold lines from behind with a ballpoint pen, using the cuts as a guide.

Fold the sides and ends crisply. (For permanent installation, run a strip of double-sided tape along the length of each side, halfway down the side).

Allow the tops of the sides and end panels to slip under the car's rolled lip. If the rolls are too tight for the wrap, you can open them slightly, or cut the wrap slightly shorter.

Stick the overlapping ends together with double-sided tape. The copyright notice should be covered by the overlapping flap of the other side.

Using a pin, punch through the wrap at each hole in the end of the bin, and carefully carve out the holes with a new #11 X-acto® bladein a hobby knife while holding the wrap on the car.
Replace the bin in the wire cradle.

FLATCAR
Flatcar wraps can be used with any standard, square-end Marx® 6" car frame. Just remove the original car body (if any), and install the wrap on the frame.

Fold crisply. (For permanent installation, run double-sided tape along each side of the long folds.)

At one end, fold down the end- and corner-pieces, gluing them to the black tabs with a spot of cyano cement (superglue). Place the wrap on the car and fold down the end- and corner-pieces, gluing them in the same way, but being careful not to get glue on the car (unless installation is to be permanent).

Pull down on the large tabs at the bottom of the sides, and fold them back under the frame edges. Tape them there for temporary installation, or glue them there for permanent installation.
