Since
the Great Crash of '04, when "Boat 'N A Bag" was blown into the Netherifendibulum, TVAG has been
working to provide a superior replacement product line--and now it's here!
In
collaboration with Master Builders Richard Houston and Chris Ferree, TVAG
presents "Send A Gunboat!," a line of inexpensive, full color, heavy card
stock ship models in both 25mm and 15mm scales. The
initial release includes 6 models in 28mm scale, and each
will be duplicated in 15mm shortly.
Richard Houston's 30+ years experience of ship modeling have allowed him to create
authentic designs which are now "reproducible" for far less cost than his hand-made, wooden and metal
Houston's Ships.
As
builder, all you need to add are Crew, Armaments, and such Ship's Fittings as
you like. Richard's own 25mm model Gun, Crew, and Fittings are available at bargain prices from
The London War Room,
and a somewhat smaller, complementary selection of John McEwan's own fine 25mm models can be
found at Reviresco.
You can even buy your choice of flags to fly on your models by visiting
the Naval Flags Page .
Unlike
"Boat 'N A Bag," the new line includes a wide variety of Native Craft
from around the world in addition to basic Gunboat designs. All (with more to come) are specifically designed
for the popular rules set Boilers And Breechloaders ,
but will fight just as well with other rules. Though designed for wargames, each
model would look grand on any Gentleman's mantle between actions.
New
Gunboat designs already in development will include three versions of
Side-Wheelers, and at least two Screw Driven types. These will be somewhat
larger than the Sternwheelers now offered, and more "Military" in
design and appearance.
All
models are provided in your choice of two forms: PDF's on CD for
self-printing and assembly, or fully assembled by Richard Houston himself.
Models bought in assembled form will be built with Styrofoam and/or foam core
hulls and come "ready to play," including your choice of national Naval Jack and Ensign
from TVAG's Naval Flags Page.
The
self-assembly option is affordable and easy, requiring only glue, scissors, and, if desired, some
additional foam core or heavy matte board, though all models have
been designed to carry full complements of Crew and Armaments through any number
of battles. Native Warships come with colored sails and easy information on making
masts/spars, and with the photographic textures added by TVAG to Richard's original designs,
no painting is required.
Chris Ferree, author of
The Kris And The Flame (TKATF), the rules for the battles of "Rajah Brooke" of
Borneo, extensively researched the subject and has produced the most authentic wargame quality models available
for the many different types of Native Craft that made life interesting throughout the South China Seas. The first release of
these--coming very soon!--will consist of four 15mm models of Prahu, soon to be followed by a Lorcha, Kora-kora, and more
Junks, as well as at least one design of British Gunboat for the period.
These 15mm models are the long awaited
replacements for the earlier collection in support of TKATF, but will not only represent a much wider selection, but will be
offered in 25mm scale as well for the first time.
NOTE:
All photos on this and the related page are of prototype designs. The products for sale may vary in
small details or colors, any differences representing improvements over the models shown.
Special
Pricing Offer!
All 6 models in this initial release are available as PDF's
on CD. If bought singly, these would total $80.00, but if you order them all at once, the price will be
$50.00 , plus postage.
As more more
models become available, there will be different Special Pricing Offers designed
to make affordable the creation of whole Native Fleets and the necessary
Gunboats to romp with them! All hands, Please "Stand By!"
