Since before your Sun burned hot in Space, Richard Houston, has been playing with--and making--wargames figures and models. For over twenty years, he produced miniatures of weapons, vehicles, and especially artillery. Many of these lines are now being sold by a variety of companies since Richard's retirement. However, like the Sorcerer's Apprentice, once he gets started on something, he just won't stop!

Houston's
Ships

Hand-built, fully finished ship models for gaming and collecting.

Richard has produced many Gunboats specifically designed for wargaming over the years, but finally went into full scale production, having sold any number of his creations to collectors and gamers who sought him out and are now tickled pink to have an original "Houston" on their mantles or in their games.

Boilers And
Breechloaders

Riverine and coastal naval warfare rules to accompany these Gunboat and other models, is now available from TVAG in its Print Edition, and as PDF's on CD for self-printing. Wargamers now have a definitive game system for rating and using any Gunboat models in their Colonial era games. Further, these rules are perfectly compatible with the classic The Sword And The Flame 20th Anniversary Edition , and the Colonial Campaign rules, The Sun Never Sets , also available on TVAG's "Rules" Page.

The models here offered are one-of-a-kind and once sold will probably NOT be made again. However, Richard sometimes returns to favorite themes, and in any case produces custom built ship models. Interested parties please E-mail The General who will put you together with the Shipwright.

All Houston's Gunboats are waterline models built on thick pine hulls. Superstructures are basswood and foam core board, with metal fittings, fully painted. Most ships come with weapons, and some with complete crews. These are heavily built and with reasonable care will last a lifetime. Indeed, upon "retirement" each could proudly move to the display case or mantel.

 Dissasembled

The models are built with gaming in mind, having removable decks, roofs and other details for easy access to interior play-spaces.

Below are listings of the currently available "gameable" works of art.

HS-88
Submarine #1
Well, Richard finally decided to give it a try, and here is his first Submarine!

No particular Nationality is implied, but she's modeled on the Pre- and early WW I styles. Just the ticket for Pulp Fiction and other Role Playing games, not to mention giving your friends with other Gunboats and Freighters reason to start keeping a sharper watch!

Mounting a 4" Gun forward, you can set the number of torpedo tubes yourself (though two forward and perhaps one aft should be plenty). There's even room to bring up a Machine Gun onto the Conning Tower, if you like.

She's 19" long and 3" on the beam, made entirely of basswood and pine, with metal fittings.

(Crew figures NOT included!)
