Astounding Adventures

Scenario Contest Number 2!

Astounding Adventures #1 The Rules

Below are a selection of actual Pulp Fiction covers from which the titles and other information have been removed. Your mission: Choose the one you like best, and write a one, two, or three act Scenario to go with it.

We know, many Pulp Covers had little or nothing to do with any one story in a specific issue, but this time what the readers see is what they'll get!

Covers have been chosen for the number of unique elements in them (the nasty looking syringe, the unusual weapon, the sinister machine, the odd statue, the number and types of characters, bizarre setting, etc). Usually, when there are three or more characters on a cover, all are usually identifiable as Good Guys or Bad Guys. Ideally, the action represented should actually have the chance to occur in the last (or only) climatic act, but not necessarily. The story that includes the largest number of all these elements, in the most imaginative and exciting way, will be chosen.

If we get more than one good submission for the same cover, we'll just use it in AA #3 or later.

We'll pull the plug on this particular contest at midnight, October 7 (CST). Send your entries either to Howard via the Astounding Tales Yahoo! Group, or to me (where they'll wind up ultimately, anyway) TVAG@worldnet.att.net . The hope to is have enough sensational material for AA#2 to go to print before Christmas 2007, if not sooner.

Winners will be chosen based on the quality, originality--or sheer gall!--of the the Authors. We're raising the bar this time, so give it your best shot!

As before, authors whose works are chosen for AA#2 will receive gratis copies, and full public credit for their contributions. The chance for fame, fortune, and the sudden attentions of Classy Dames with "45's" (and some with pistols) await you!

Format

Write your submissions in the same general form of the Scenarios you find in AT2 and/or AA#1. Maps and illustrations that would help a Director produce your Scenario are strongly encouraged. You don't have to be Rand McNally--we'll clean them up for you.

Let your readers know how many and of what types of figures, props, or sets the Scenario needs, but don't insist on exact figures or particular brands. Allow your readers some room to improvise these as best they can.

Provide all the standard Attributes for your Characters just as provided in the printed versions, but don't be afraid to create special rules or skills the story needs.  The less work required by the Editor to publish a Scenario, the more favorably it may be considered!  If you have any questions, contact either Howard or me, and be prepared to do some "punching up" if we think it's necessary. The final edit is up to the Editor!

And remember, even if AT2 is not the Pulp Fiction Gaming system you prefer, remember that conversion rules for "Rugged Adventures," ."45 Adventure," and "To Be Continued...By Gaslight" are all included with each copy of Astounding Adventures!

So, hock your second pistol, buy a new ribbon for the typewriter, dip your toothbrush in bourbon to clean the keys, and show us what you've got!
